The New York Times Makes a Case for Paper Planners

Scott Brown

#nyt's #kristinwong gets it! Unfortunately, our planner isn't listed in the article since we didn't exist yet, but it's still makes exactly the right case for making a paper planner the star, with productivity apps serving a support role at best.

It's a 2-3 minute read, but here's a quick summary if you're busy or hitting the paywall:

Paper planners aren't just for luddites or for for those who want the "nostalgia factor." There are true advantages over using productivity apps:
  • People prefer the feel of real paper to mashing glass
  • Writing things down by hand helps us remember
  • It takes multiple productivity apps to do what a good paper planner can do, turning what should be a mindful and peaceful activity into a tiresome exercise in app-switching.
Turning back the technology dial and going to a paper planner can seem overwhelming at first, but if you nail down what you're looking for in a planner and transition gradually, you'll be a better planner for it.
